War is hell for everyone, especially for civilian, clamped in the middle. However, so far this has not been reflected in any game, we decided to change this fact, ”the company claims 11 Bit Studios, Founded by former employees of the famous Polish studio CD Projekt.
“The game shows the view of the war from the civilians, it is about people who are struggling to survive in the besieged city. You start with a small group of people who find themselves in a difficult situation. You need to look for food, materials, equipment – everything that can have a price of exchanging, you will have to make tough and unpleasant decisions that will seriously affect the lives of people whom you meet. You will have to combine all the disadvantages and pluses of your group, choosing certain roles to them. You can bring someone to suicide, your ward will no longer be able to survive, it will just give up.
“This War of Mine” has a very unusual art style. When you see the game for the first time, you understand that the game itself will be very gloomy and tragic. This was our goal! The entourage looks natural, corresponding to the realities of war.
We read thousands of pages of memoirs, stories of the survivors, laid it all in the game. Unlike other games about the war, here you do not need to kill other people, there are many other ways to get everything that you need. You can agree without causing harm to anyone. But you can start robbing and killing, justifying everything with the desire to survive. The script in the game is individual and random, it develops in hundreds of versions. Everything is in reality, because you do not know when the guns subside, and you need to be prepared for tomorrow, because it can become the last … day of the war … or the life of your group … ”
One month in “This War of Mine”
You just got acquainted with comments from the developers of the game six months before its release. It sounds promising, isn’t it? Being a burned skeptic, I did not believe loud words and tried to survive in a brutal and realistic setting “This War of Mine“. This is how it did it.
The main characters:
Kate – Born and grew up in Podrena (the city where the events of the game take place). I lived abroad for many years, studied for a reporter. Returned to the city to find her parents. It is fine.
Pavlo – Football player. Before the war, he lived with his wife and son in the best area. Seeks his relatives. He runs quickly.
Bruno – The famous cook, before the war, had its own TV show “Kitchen Bruno” and its own restaurant. Smokes.

Day 1
My group members are determined to survive the war. Pavlo fell ill, and Bruno constantly smokes. For considerations of inappropriateness to let Pavlo into the night sortie due to his illness, and Bruno due to his limited inventory (10 in Bruno, compared with 12 at Katya and Pavlo), Katya is sent to the night raid. The girl brought a lot of useful things from a bombed house: food, materials and spare parts.
Day 2
From the spare parts found Katya, we repair and install the radio. Pavlo rakes the blockages and opens access to new rooms in the house. Bruno catches the wave of a radio station where the group will be able to find out the latest news.
Day 3

Day 4
From the details, Bruno collected two beds and a chair. Pavlo visited the house of two families at night. Successfully slipping through the inhabited part of the house, he cleaned the uninhabited and went into the shelter.
Day 5
Bruno modernized the stove and prepared delicious hot dishes for the group. Everyone ate and are in a beautiful mood. Suddenly, the girl knocked on the doorway of the shelter and asked for help: the neighboring building collapsed, people were under the wreckage. Pavlo went with her without hesitation. Marauders attacked us at night, but their attack was successfully repulsed.
Day 6
In the night raid, Pavlo arranged a barter with his son of a car mechanic: useful material in exchange for a medicine for an elderly owner of a garage.
Day 7

Hunger came, the street is colder. You need to take more desperate steps. The neighbor came running again, asked the bandages for her father, pulled out by Pavlo from the blockage. Bruno gave her bandages, hoping for future mutual assistance.
Day 11
Hunger began to torment even more. At night, Katya went to the raid on the supermarket and saved the girl from a drunk soldier who wanted to take possession of her, threatening with a weapon. Katya distracted the attention of the soldier on herself, the girl managed to escape, but Katya received an easy wound from a pistol.
Day 12
The group admires Katya’s heroism, Bruno fed everyone, but there is still very little food. Pavlo sits in a chair and reads the book found, Bruno smokes, and Emilia collected a guitar and plays on it on the top floor. Katya is sleeping. In the basement of the supermarket Pavlo found a broken machine.
Day 13
Katya penetrates the construction site and, risking her life, gets a lot of useful loot, remaining inconspicuous for two snipers shooting all over the living on the top floor.
Day 14
Pavlo visited the central square, buying food and spare parts.
Day 15
It turned out that for the upgrade of the locksmith apparatus it is necessary to find more spare parts. If the group wants to survive, we must learn to resist armed people.
Day 16
This time, Katya went to the destroyed villa, where army deserters settled with remarkable reserves of stew and consumables. The girl gathered a lot of Luta, but on the way back was killed by a burst from a machine gun to the back by one of the deserters.
Day 17
The group is depressed, everyone is mourn on Katya. Bruno expressed the idea to put his hands on himself. Pavlo sat with him on the floor and began to calm him down. Emilia plays the guitar again to calm the nerves. Pavlo gathered a knife, helmet and master.
Day 18
In the night raid in the dilapidated slums, Emilia discovered that the homeless, who asked Katya, died.
Day 19
Bruno is slowly dying of hunger. Pavlo in the raid did not find any food.
Day 20
The merchant Morgan came again, Bruno bought food from him and ate, having a little satisfying his hunger. You need to act without delay and errors. Pavlo took a chance to go to the hotel controlled by armed bandits, and saved a man there.
Day 21
The mood was slightly raised, but hunger makes itself felt. At night, Emilia, neglecting all life values, robbed an elderly married couple, stole a lot of food from them.
Day 22
Everyone ate heartily, but the mood only worsened. The group is worried about the robbery of civilians: “If the old woman dies, her husband will not survive this”. Bandits attack the shelter at night and wound Bruno.
Day 23
Pavlo dares to penetrate the stronghold of deserters with the aim of revenge for Katya, armed with a knife and body armor. He finds her body, takes an important loot, but does not get to the exit alive: two deserter armed with machine guns did not leave his knife a chance.
Day 24
Bruno constructs a moonshine and a mixture table for crafting vital objects. Emilia opens the door to an unfamiliar girl who thanks for the salvation of his father from under the blockage and for the bandages he donated, and gives a family decoration-expensive earrings. Emilia does not refuse a gift.
Day 25
The wounded Bruno goes into his first raid in a small abode – a place where there are a lot of food and useful equipment, and does not return from there.
Day 26
It gets very cold, snow falls. Emilia drowns it and gets rain water. The girl makes another raid in the house of the old people and finds medicines there. On the top floor of the building, you can find the dead wife of the old man.
Day 27
Emilia is barely walking, she is very sick, hungry and is depressed. It was not possible to find anything useful at night.
Day 28
The dying Emilia tried to get food on a rich construction site, but did not take into account the threat of snipers, for which she paid.
This is how my first adventure in This War of Mine. The script of the game and characters are generated by chance, so each time we are experiencing a new adventure. A strange thing, but you really empathize with the characters in this two -dimensional platformer! I am ashamed that I robbed two defenseless old people, did not help the homeless in difficult times. Not every modern game can cause empathy to heroes. The long -awaited continuation of the cult game of the beginning of the “zero” Mafia 2 With her log -like protagonist, an overly crucial game with “taking history” Beyond: Two Souls, pseudo -moraine choice in recent Watch Dogs – All these games did not cause a wide audience of similar feelings. In this sense This War of Mine can be compared with the magnificent The Last of Us. Such adventures are not forgotten.
